從Narcissus一名衍生的narcissism 被醫學界定義為一種人格缺陷，又名自戀症。主要特徵如下：

2，極端喜歡和渴望他人對自己的讚賞；仇視不欣賞自己的人，並加以攻擊謾罵和詆毀；
3，對他人的批評則高度敏感，幻想自己被嫉妒，被攻擊;
4，只有羞恥感，沒有負罪感，換句話説就是自己永遠正確，凡事都是別人的錯。

患此症的人應及時就醫，不然一輩子痛苦不堪。
